The Michigan Technological University Synchronized Skating Club (MTUSSC) was founded September of 2000. It was created by the men and women of MTU to fulfill the desire to continue skating competitively through the college years and to promote figure skating throughout the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The University two years previously, had only a recreational synchronized skating organization named The Cutting Edges @ MTU. It had 13 original members and skated between periods at the MTU Huskies hockey games. Most of those members skate with the MTUSSC now. The MTUSSC has high goals and expectations for the team and its members. The philosophy is that each skater, at any skill level, contributes to the team. The primary focus of the team is to demonstrate excellence on a competitive program and achieve the best possible results at competition. The secondary focus of the team is to perform at University functions such as exhibitions and hockey games. The third focus of the team is to positively represent and promote Michigan Technological University. In addition the team also promotes the sport of figure skating as well as synchronized skating. The MTUSSC has future hopes of becoming the next women's Varsity team to be added to MTU. |
